Color | Shades of Green.

18 Jan

Green has always been a staple in my closet and for my home. I love the varying shades of this arguably neutral color. Try pairing it with khaki, taupe, chocolate, navy, or bold colors for the spring. Any of these softer pieces will suffice quite nicely for dress up or the interiors:

Oh That Pink Box.

11 Jan

Have you heard of Birchbox? It’s a magical pink (yes, here is that glorious color two days in a row. I think it might totally be breaking down my guard) box that arrives at your doorstep every month on the 10th, and it won’t disappoint. Maybe you are like me and have exercised the same beauty regimen for the past 11 years and need someone in the know to keep you up to date on the latest and greatest. Or maybe you love all things soap, eye color, and creams. Or maybe you simply love having fun packages arrive by snail mail. Either way, sign yourself up.

January’s must haves:

. archipelago | pomegranate body soap .

. clark’s botanicals | smoothing marine cream .

. juicy couture | juicy couture signature fragrance .

. stila | smudge stick waterproof eye liner .

. larabar | mini carrot cake bar .

Color Blocking | Red + Pink.

10 Jan

Ok. If you know me at all you know 2 things: 1. Red does not exist in my closet. I don’t gravitate towards it in stores and I never wear it, even at Christmas. 2. Pink sort of makes me think of pop princesses. Maybe it’s a little too girly, maybe I am just being obstinate towards it for no reason. It’s undecided.

However, something happened to me when I realized what a combo pink + red are together. Like, I want to go buy lots of pink and red this very moment. And wear them together. And I won’t even feel like I’m repping Valentine’s Day.

Inspire | Heidi Merrick.

29 Dec

Yes, it’s only almost January. I realize that the cold is only starting here on the east coast, but I can not help dreaming of warmer days and sunny rays. Heidi Merrick’s Spring 2012 collection help put me in the summery mood last night and is inspiring my own Spring/Summer 2012 line.

Home for Christmas.

27 Dec

I love being home for the holidays. Details always make this time of the year feel more special, especially when my mom sets herbs in dainty, glass containers at our place settings. Ribbon candy in apothecary jars. Berries and red birds in the kitchen. Chestnuts and twigs on the coffee table. I know that no room or space will be neglected. It truly is all in the details and that’s what makes it feel like home and the holidays. Hope your holidays were just as special!

Southern Weddings | Ornament Swap.

21 Dec

In my daily perusing of blogs, pinterest, and the like I came across Southern Weddings website and saw this:

Each year Southern Weddings hosts an ornament swap. So many of my friends had entered calendar exchanges for the holidays so when I came across this I entered my name. Using wine corks, a hot glue gun, and some gold glitter I constructed this sweet tree ornament.

I sent out four ornaments and these were the ones I received:

I loved having Christmas packages arrive at my door each day!

Museums and Cupcakes | D.C.

19 Dec

Happy Monday! I’m back from D.C. (after flying to Charleston twice yesterday. Flight #1: fly almost to Charleston and had to turn around for computer glitches. Flight #2: made it all the way to Charleston without turning around). Here are some highlights:

We stayed right across the street from Georgetown Cupcakes. I limited myself to one cupcake, although if I lived here full time I would most certainly trek across the street in my pajamas like Lauren and Tice. People are constantly standing in a line that goes out the door, which I now understand. Funny how one treat can make people swoon. Later that night we ate Turkish cuisine at Cafe Divan and then had the most delicious Praline meringue for dessert at Kafe Leopold.

Saturday we took the Metro from Court House to D.C. The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History had an exhibit on the Hope Diamond and many other gems and minerals. I even managed to find several larger pieces that would fit nicely in my home, on display (specifically that orange beauty on the bottom there).

And here’s Santa on the metro. Actually, one of about 300 Santas. They were everywhere, which added quite nicely to the Christmas cheer, he didn’t even mind me snapping a picture.

Hope you had a great weekend!

Weekend Getaway | D.C.

16 Dec

I’ve packed my bags (full of the most warm scarves, jackets, gloves, and boots I own) for a little getaway to D.C. Best friend Lauren has no doubt formulated a weekend itinerary sure to include only the best ways to experience Christmas in the city. And this time we won’t burn the oatmeal cookies.
